The premiere of Vincenzo Bellini’s opera «I Capuleti e i Montecchi» at the Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) will take place on June 11, 2027.

Key aspects of the directorial concept—Focus on violence rather than romance: Director Tatiana Gürbaca consciously moves away from the traditional Shakespearean emphasis on romantic love. Her production explores a story of deep-seated hatred, feuding, and violence that ensnares and maims the young lovers.
Gürbaca employs virtuosic vocal embellishments (coloratura) not as a showy element, but as a means of expressing the characters’ most subtle and hidden psychological states in extreme situations.
