The Basel Autumn Fair (Basler Herbstmesse) is Switzerland’s oldest and largest urban fair featuring rides and festivities, transforming Basel’s central squares every year. In 2026, this major event will take place from October 24 to November 8 (with the market stalls at Petersplatz traditionally remaining open for an additional two days—until November 10).
The fair dates back to 1471, making it a living cultural asset of the city with a tradition spanning more than 550 years. Every year, the festival attracts around a million visitors.
